Power Outage Circuit Breaker Not Tripped – What’s the Solution?

plug-free-img.png

Have your electrical appliances switched off automatically? It is often just a tripped breaker, which can be fixed by resetting it from the main fuse box.

But what if it is already on? This could be a problem of concern, especially if it hasn’t happened to you before.

Don’t worry; a power outage can happen even when the circuit breaker is not tripped. There is a proper mechanism for its resolution that we’ll share in this article. So get ready to take notes of the possible solutions, as any of these might work in your situation.

Reset The Breaker

We understand that your breaker is already in the ON mode, but you can still try to switch it OFF and ON once to be sure that it is not the cause of the problem.

Here’s how you can do it. You need to open your fuse box, irrespective of whether it is inside or outside your home. You’ll see multiple breakers within the box in a line. There must be 2-3 breakers above all the lined switches. You must try toggling them first.

If it works, you’re good. But if it doesn’t, and you have these main breakers in the ON position, you should look for the individual breakers from the lined ones in the opposite direction. Usually, this restricts the supply to your home’s specific switch or area.

So, toggling it can provide you with the required results.

However, if that doesn’t help, you can try any of the following methods.

Check the GFCI Reset Button

Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) could be the reason for the power cut-off in some cases, even when you see the breaker physically in the ON state.

This circuit is part of the newer homes, and any issues in the main electricity supply can cause this breaker to trip, resulting in no electricity to a particular room.

Even if your home is a bit old and these breakers aren’t present, any loose or broken circuits in one of the outlets can cause the other outlets to shut off.

So, you’ll have to check the GFCI Reset button (in newer homes) and the electrical wiring (in older ones) to eliminate this problem.

Check for Power Issues

It is less likely, but your utility company might be going through problems or maintenance, which could be the cause of the power outage.

So, if there is no power at your place, you’ll be experiencing problems.

If so, your neighbors will also face the same issue. So, you can check it with them and be sure about the problem. Also, contacting your utility company can help you confirm the problem.

Besides, you can even check your electricity meter. If the needle is moving, there is another cause of the power outage. But if the needle is not moving, there is a problem with the main power source.

In such a case, you’ll have to wait or use backup power sources (if you have any) till your utility company manages the situation.

Breaker Might Not be Working

If you are sure that you don’t have power issues at your home and even the above-stated problems aren’t the cause of the issue, then it is more likely a problem with your breaker. It might not be working perfectly.

The solution to this problem is to replace the breaker and install a new one. You’ll have to hire a professional electrician to ensure your safety.

Can’t figure out the problem

Power outages without problems in the circuit breaker are usually because of the issues mentioned earlier. But if none of these problems reflects your situation or you cannot identify what is causing the issue, you can get help from the electrician.

The electricians are trained to troubleshoot the problems with the breakers, wiring, and connections. So, they’ll identify the electrical issue and fix it for you.
