Another park you can find in Chicago is Jackson Park. It was originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1871. But it is not in its original form till now. It was remodeled in 1893, 2012, and 2016 and we see the new version today.

Largest and historic parks in the city:

After its remodeling in 1893, Jackson Park became the largest and the most historic park in Chicago. There are multiple attractions within the park. These include a Japanese garden, the Statue of The Republic, and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Initial Plan:

The initial plan of Jackson Park was to cover 1000 acres apart from an extension of Chicago Park and the boulevard system. After the expansion, new areas and themes were added to the initial plan. It made the park bigger and more interesting. Currently, it covers 551.5-acre, but this area doesn’t include the associated gardens and amenities that are considered an integral part of the part.

Park Name:

The name of the park was not always Jackson Park. Initially, it was known as Lake Park, but in 1880 in memory of the seventh president of the United States, it was renamed, Jackson Park. It was the recognition of his efforts for the United States leading to the changing of its name.

Aquatic theme:

This park relies on the aquatic theme where lagoons and islands had a prominent role. The original theme of the park is still there, but the grounds of the park have been modified. Boat harbors, playing fields, prairie restoration, a golf course, and 63rd Street Beach are a few newly created attractions in this beautiful park.

Worlds Columbian’s Exposition:

One of the other titles of the park is the honor of holding the World’s Columbian Exposition. The White City of Plaster was created within the park to make it appropriate as the venue for the exposition. Many architects participated in its construction; it opened to the public on 1st May 1893.
